BRETT BUTTERSTEIN PHOTOGRAPHY

Why do you shoot weddings?
I just love taking pictures and enjoy the challenge of telling a wedding day story as creatively as possible. I feel very lucky that my work brings people joy and holds great significance in their personal lives.
How did you start shooting weddings?
I never planned to be a wedding photographer. I began my photographic career as a photojournalist and photographed my first wedding in 2000. Once I realized that I didn't have to change my photojournalistic style to continue documenting fun, important, happy events, I was hooked.
What is your approach to capturing the day?
I prefer to be quiet, calm and unobtrusive. I'm intent on capturing the moments and being as creative as possible. I also enjoy being part of the group and getting to know everyone.
You have mostly candid pictures on your Website. Do you take posed family pictures?
Yes. Although these are not particularly challenging pictures to take, I understand their importance and tackle them with the same sense of integrity.
Do you work with an assistant?
I prefer to work alone to maintain a low profile but can bring a second photographer with a simliar style for a small, additonal fee.
What kind of equipment do you use?
I am a digital wedding photographer and use three high-end Canon digital cameras and have a large assortment of lenses and backup lenses.
Are you willing to travel?
Yes. I consider myself to be a traveling wedding photographer and am insured for international destination weddings.Traveling is a big part of what I do.
